I have inherited an instance which has SQL TRACE enabled; even for imports.
I state this because every import I initiate, a new trace file in udump is generated.
I want to disable the creation of these trace files, but can not find where to do so.
The real problem is this system is very short on disk space and an import generates
a 2+GB tracefile & fills up the volume.

I have issued the command below, but the trace file continue to be generated.
alter system set events ‘10046 trace name context off’;

As far as I know, no logon trigger exists & nothing enables TRACE within glogin.
I started the instance using a pfile which does not contain any line to enable TRACE.

I have never seen this behavior & have exhausted places to look.
I need to stop the trace file from being generated by imp.
Any clues would be most appreciated.

SQL above did not change behavior. imp still generates trace file

Check 10604, 10606, 10608 they trace some index creation.

is this imp done through some script?
because there is this hidden parameter (trace=y) for imp.
Is it been invoked somehow?
I believe you might have already checked the imp command line input options used.

the import is being invoked from a script as follows:
imp ${USER}/${PASS} file=$DMP FULL=Y LOG=import3.log ignore=yes buffer=128000000

I found the below:
SQL> show parameter trace

Did you check SQLNET.ora file there is any tracing enabled

eg:
TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = ADMIN

Does not exists & trace file appears to be isolated to imp only; not sqlplus or application connections.

According to you it is strange. but i don't think so.

I faced this probelm before so share with you & all.

Did you check when export and import will going on trace file will generated. if sqlnet.ora parameter is set?

I guess I am suffering from a bad case of senioritis because I do not understand the point you are making.

1) the system involved is the RDBMS server itself & contains no sqlnet.ora file
2) even it sqlnet.ora file existed I fail to understand how or why it would come into play because SQL*Net is not used to connect to the database.

Please explain & elaborate, I'm willing to learn.

I took the cowards way out of this problem.
I added another disk to a different system & imported the data into it.
I will retire this old possessed system & not worry how or why any trace file gets generated.

Ana, I was answering to aaryaan not asking for the trace file content, I know it will not be useful.
I think we had explorated all ideas we could have but you can PM the trace file to aaryaan, maybe it will have a new idea.

Hi,
I have requested for content of trace file just to confirm whether it is sql trace file. Yes this is sql trace file with level 12 and SYS user is getting traced.
If you want to confirm it again, there is a script available somewhere in net which will tell you what are all the event set in DB. I will try to find it for you.

Here's one I wrote about 5 years ago:
