We are currently using OID to authenticate Oracle Application Server users.

We would like to use it to do the same for our Oracle Database.

When we do this, what do we do with the resource section when creating users.

What do we do with existing user's resources?

Once the database authentication is being handled by OID, OID usernames and passwords will be the same on the application server and the database. So I don't see why we would have to store a password in the resource anymore. But we still have to configure it to point to the correct database, correct? How is this done?

The answer here is that we do nothing.

Oracle says that oracle forms and reports have to have the resource access descriptor in order to connect to the database.

Even if the database is authenticating against the same OID install. There is no getting around it.

So if a user changes their OID password, they will have to edit their resource access descriptor so that the change in the password is reflected there.

Oracle has entered an enhancement request (for a future release of OracleAS) that the user won't have to edit the resource access descriptor in this case. So maybe someday things will get easier for the user.
