Hi,

We want to monitor several Oracle database instances from 1 remote host. I think this is only possible using Oracle EM Grid Control (see link below).
http://www.rittmanmead.com/2004/08/enterprise-manager-grid-control-for-windows-now-available/

I know every oracle database 10g comes with an EM and starting the service is simple, but it is limited to monitoring its own local database. I thought that remote installation can be as simple as the local version, but seems like its not since Oracle EM Grid Control has more requirements. Please enlighten me on this.

Thanks,
Mon

The current product is Cloud Control 12c, release 12.1.0.1.
Here is the home page, http://www.oracle.com/us/products/enterprise-manager/index.html

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Actually what I wanted to know is, can we setup a remote version of Oracle EM (not Grid Control) in a separate server monitoring other servers with Oracle database instances.

I'm a bit confused because of the 2 links.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/A84870_01/doc/em.816/a75685/ch1.htm --> this shows an EM (not Grid Control) which is installed remotely to monitor oracle instances.

http://www.oracle.com/us/products/enterprise-manager/index.html --> this shows EM Grid Control which is also installed remotely to monitor oracle services (not just oracle database).

All we want is a remote version of EM (somewhat like the built-in EM in Oracle Databases) to monitor our oracle database. So what is the current Oracle (simple) solution out there?

Thanks,
Mon

Your first link dates from year 2000. Your second link dates from 2004. The link I gave you is from 2012. Which do you think might be more relevant?

Thanks and sorry I got confused with the names. Oracle EM (link in 2000), Oracle EM Database Control (the local EM version built in every database) and Oracle EM Grid Control (the remote version of Oracle EM Database Control but can monitor other Oracle services).

You could possibly look at other tools.

Quest Toad (several different versions with different abilities)

myora

hyperic

nagios

SQL Developer

A lot of it depends on your monitoring/administrative requirements.
