Curious if anyone has taken the 1Z0-060 exam and if they used and specific study materials they would recommend.

Yes, I am looking at some reviews of different books. As always they are greatly varied. Most of the five star reviews just say things like "great book" where as the lower stars do give explanations of why they give it a low rating.

I just wanted to see if anyone in this forum might have suggestions other than being like Matthew Morris and researching and writing a book on the subject ( which seems like a great way to study ).

So far the most promising list of materials I found was from a BLOG on the subject.

1. Self Test software $99 (Any one use https://www.selftestsoftware.com/certtestprep/practice-test/oracle/1z0-060.kap ?)
2. Matthew Morris book $10 (I have already seen several praises on this book.)
3. Sam Alapati book $44 ( Any one use http://www.amazon.com/Upgrade-Oracle-Database-Guide-1Z0-060/dp/0071819975/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407273046&sr=8-1&keywor ds=Alapati+12c+upgrade )

Regards
Tim

It is indeed a great way to study. I highly recommend this method. Smile

Missing from your list is the details page on my website for 1Z0-060. Among other things, it contains links to a number of articles about the various topics on 1Z0-060. May of these were written by Tim Hall who does an excellent job of explaining and providing examples of various Oracle features. Most of my preparation was from the Oracle manuals, but I also checked out a number of Tim's articles. He easily has twice as many 060-related articles now as he did at the time I took the exam.

1Z0-060 is easily the most difficult of the OCP upgrade exams Oracle has ever put out (and I have done every one from 7->8, 8->9, 9->10 and 10->11). Much of that is the sheer number of topics involved. Adding in the 'Core' skills means candidates have to spread their studying across a wider range of essentially unrelated subjects.

I did that exam in beta. I though it was bit odd: a combination of testing new features and stuff that you should know already from prior certification. Perhaps the production exam makes more sense.
With regard to books, I did look at Sam's book, and (very unusually for Oracle Press guides) it does not have any exercises which I thought a bit odd. I studied mostly from the docs. Having gone through all the ORacle Uni material since then, I can say that a lot of the OU stuff is in fact copied straight out of the docs.

Nope... the production exam felt pretty odd too. I suspect that the Core section exists in this test only because it is a catch-up upgrade that can be used by OCPs of any earlier release. My forecast is that the upgrade exam for Oracle's next release (will they skip the dreaded # 13?) will be only for 12c OCPs and will have no Core section included.
