can you connect oracle as your other existing users??

ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

ORA-12560:	TNS:protocol adapter error
Cause:	A generic protocol adapter error occurred.
Action:	Check addresses used for proper protocol specification. Before reporting this error, look at the error
stack and check for lower level transport errors.
For further details, turn on tracing
and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete.

I can not reconcile two contradictory statemets by OP.
On one hand it appears that OP is working with a local DB.
On the other hand the ORA-12560 screams SQL*NET
OP describes but NEVER shows via CUT & PASTE complete interaction

When thing do not appear to be as they should, they probably are not as they should be.

I suspect we are not being told the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth.

I awaits more/complete details.
